Pre-Production: Plot Summary
Below is an example of a Plot Summary for our film Double Exposure.
Summary
We begin by seeing Emily arrive at her beautiful rural home
following a photography shoot, of which has concluded early. She enters her
beautiful contemporary, rural home to expect to be greeted by her boyfriend,
Dan. She heads into the kitchen to find a romantic meal prepared whilst Steph,
a beautiful blonde haired woman, stands in her Kitchen opening a bottle of
wine, of whom Emily confronts.
Meanwhile we then see unaware Dan getting out of the shower, get
ready and head into the Kitchen.
He is surprised and confused as to find Emily preparing dinner
with no sight of Steph. The two express their love for one another with a kiss
before Emily leads Dan into the Bedroom and the two express their love for one
another by being intimate. Whilst this is happening Emily’s conflicting
emotions turn from euphoria and love to betrayal and heartache, while Dan is
none the wiser. The scene cuts to black as Emily closes her eyes to contain her
emotions.
Emily wakes up alone to a new day in which she gets ready to go to
the Supermarket. On her usual journey she is absent within her own body as she
doesn’t show any emotions or thought of the night before. She travels out to
take some photographs of a beautiful picturesque landscape before returning
home.
She returns home to immediately focus on viewing her photographs.
To which Dan is irritated and looks to actively get Emily’s attention. She also
does her best to focus on her work before Dan confronts her on the events of
the night before. Emily chooses to not engage as she doesn’t want to talk about
it. This causes the two to argue about Emily’s stranglehold on Dan’s own life,
of which he has bottled up for years. After this he snaps and decides to leave.
Dan begins to pack his things and then heads to the door to leave,
in one last act of desperation Emily announces that Steph is dead, implying
that she was in the Shed at the bottom of the Garden. Dan, shocked and
devastated runs to the Shed to see for himself. Emily turns to watch him, but
he has vanished. She crawls up in a ball, distraught with her actions. Then,
there is a knock at the door.
Emily answers and sees Steph standing on her doorstep. Emily
confused and shocked at the sight of Steph then slams the door in terror as the
penny drops. She rushes to the Shed, filled with childhood memories of her and
her mother, to find Dan dead. Emily is a broken woman and we head back to the
night before.
We return to the point of which Emily sees Steph in the Kitchen.
Emily confronts Steph not allowing her to explain before demanding her to leave.
Steph does. Emily, is furious as Dan enters the room. She begins to hit him in
anger as Dan tries but is not allowed to explain. He backs away to avoid her
hits but is caught on the temple by one of Emily's blows dazing him, then causing
him to fall off balance, slip and crack his head on a Hallway Table.
As he falls Emily screams with terror and rushes to his aid but he
is dead. She bottles her emotions and becomes herself automatic, dragging his
body into the shed as she cannot cope with the psychological trauma. She locks
his body in the Shed before returning to the house to make dinner in an attempt
to return to her safe cycle of normal life, her wish is for it to all go back
to normal as she tries to regain control. As she does this, Dan enters the room
and we are back in the loop.
