Pre-Production: Critical Analysis

After finishing all the areas I set out too, it is time to evaluate the Pre-Production phase of Double Exposure. Exploring the Challenges, What went well, Improvements and the Learning Curves.

Challenges

I found that initially coming up with a good idea for a short film was a challenge. The development of the idea phase was one that took a long time and unfortunately inhibited other areas, pushing back schedule throughout the phase.

I really struggled creating a synopsis as the style of writing was not one that I was used to or could seem to get the hang of when creating drafts. Unfortunately this was something that took up a lot of valuable time also trying to research and produce a synopsis that was acceptable, ended up taking up a large portion of time.

What Went Well

I was very happy with the most recent draft of the script produced. I found that writing the script was a rewarding experience, one that initially i struggled with but found. Going through the drafts and getting feedback was something that i enjoyed to develop. I also felt that the script was a solid one and close to the final draft next year.

I also found that creating the characters was a very interesting and rewarding experience, I felt that my characters are strong and because of this the story can easily flow from their personalities as they feel more like a person I know than a character I am writing.

Improvements

One of my key improvements would have been to include more research material in my journal. I feel this was an area that may have been lost among other things but none the less I still managed to complete a lot of material.

I would have also improved the quality of my synopsis as I feel this was an area that needed further development.

Learning Curves

For the future I need to make sure that I focus a lot more attention on putting my work onto my journal. I do a large amount of work that I do sometimes forget to post about. For the future I need to plan what I need to do and when to ensure that we get things done. This is something that will be rectified next year with a larger crew and more work distribution.

The important thing next year is to keep on top of things and don't slow down. By ensuring we keep working at a steady pace we avoid it piling up at the end of the year, allowing us to produce consistently good work.
