Pre Production: Crew
When bringing crew together it is important to make sure you have the members of the crew doing what they do best in the role that they can acheive this. It is also good to have previous experience working with crew members and to constantly keep in touch with those crew members to update, inform and discuss changes and developments in the overall production process, this is achieved through meetings and good communication.
DOP: Harry Taylor
I have worked with Harry before in a variety of different projects. We have worked on studio production, news and other minor mid project pieces. We have found through experience that we work very well together within the production process. We have a mutual understanding and ability to communicate our ideas which is greatly helpful when filming and even in the pre-production phase.
By me writing and directing in this project and having Harry as DOP, I am fully confident we will get the shots we plan and want, whilst at the same time creating a film that will be an engaging visual piece.
His previous work is a credit to his ability as a visual minded cameraman and also a large reason for my confidence in his work. Below are some of these examples:
Editor/Continuity Advisor: Megan Waters
I have worked with Megan before in a variety of different projects. From News, Studio Production and other mid project pieces. By viewing her work and working with her I have noticed her skills within editing and the production process. With an eye for cuts and edits, to have her as our editor is a fantastic bonus to our film. As editor in post production, she will also take on the roll as Continuity Advisor, so that during filming it will be her job to ensure things on set are as they were originally in previous shots, ensuring we have as little issues as possible in post by way of re-shoots.
After filming I will be working closely with Megan as we get through each edit of the film, ensuring that the film sticks to the script, my directorial vision and any issues that may arise, I will be present to address.
By looking at her previous work it is easy to see her skills as an editor, the timing of cuts to music and match on action are exactly what I was looking for. Also, her work with colorization likes perfectly to the use of colour within our film and the meaning behind it, meaning Megan and Harry will be able to bring the look and mood of the film we are aiming to portray. Below is a few of her previous works:
Producer: Wez Denne
I have worked with Wez closely in a few projects now. I have found that as a Producer, he is the go to guy as we have worked consistently well together in numerous projects, this ranges from Studio Production, News, Directions and many other minor projects.
Wez as a Producer is a good provider, able to get the contacts needed, this in regards to locations, actors, admission, risk assessment and extra equipment. During Production he will handle call sheets, and be the go to guy for any and all information other than the story and film itself.
I will be working closely with Wez throughout Pre-production, Production and Post production as most Directors and Producers do to ensure we keep to deadlines, organize budget and participate in casting.
Below are examples of his previous films and work, it is important to note the attention to detail and the use of fitting actors/actresses within his work:
Sound: Sam Elliot
This will be my first time working with Sam, however I am confident in his abilities and that he will work hard in his role as Sound Technician. Through speaking to Sam and to colleges who have worked with him in the past i was able to find out that his experience in working on Sound would be a huge asset when assigning him to the role.
I have noticed that his work ethic within groups he has worked in has always been high, and his abilities and focus on set are one of the big reasons we are so keen to work with him.
As sound technician he will be on set each shoot, working on recording sound on a external device (Zoom). He has experience on this and though his work this is evident with good, crisp, sound quality.
Lighting/Camera Assistant: Joshua Jones
Like with Sam, it will be my first time working with Josh, however, seeing his work and experience behind the camera fills me with confidence in the role he will be working in.
When discussing lighting and Camera Assistance for Harry, Josh's name was raised very early. His confidence and work ethic on shoot is a testament to his ability as a filmmaker. By being one himself, he acts as another creative mind on set providing insight and experience to our crew allowing for further possibilities when filming and hopefully less issues.
By working on Lighting and as Camera Assistant, he will be working very closely with Harry and I, meaning that as a crew the cohesiveness is key. One of the key reasons for all of our crew choices is that we all gel, work well together and work hard, allowing for a professional filming environment which can produce the best film possible.
Runners/Producer Assistant: Laura Bess Draper
I have worked with Laura before in one previous project, Studio Production. During this production she was Wez's assistant and also acted as a runner. Within this role she was fantastic and when deciding on this role her name was the first to come up.
This is because we found that she had a very good work ethic and also gel well within our group. She proved a valuable team member in studio production and this was remembered when deciding crew for our major project.
On shooting days she will be our Main Runner, and also assistant to Wez. A role that is suited to her perfectly as we have found she is reliable and focused on set meaning that should such an issue be raised or something need doing around shooting days, she would step up and assist in any way.
So far this is our crew, we will be working on back up crew members in the event of unforeseen circumstances and unavailability to ensure there are as little issues as possible.
