Professional Practice: Chatham Historic Dockyard - Festival of Steam and Transport
For my Professional and Critical practice, I chose the Commission option. I chose this because while work placement is interesting, I felt that the commission option is something that is more suited to my style of work. To be able to go and build connections on my own, in a sense become a freelance filmmaker. This is interesting to me as the sense of freedom and professional standard of working allows me to become more focused and choose an company to work with that will be interesting and workable for myself.
I recently got in touch with Chatham Historic Dockside, to discuss my interest in providing a short advertising/promotional piece, in which the Dockside could use for their own, while providing me with experience. Interestingly, the representative i spoke too, Alana, proposed an event which i could film for 27th and 28th March. The 'Festival of Steam and Transport' is an event held at the dockside which features;
- Classic cars
- Steam and locomotive displays
- Live bands
- Street entertainment
- Animals
- Farmers market
- and a Steam-Punk village
Very soon I will return to the dockside and take a walk around, to get a general overview to scale and decide how i will shoot and cover the festival. This will be something i will take my crew along with, who of which are yet to be fully decided.
This is very different and interesting event and something that i look forward to covering and using to help further promote the dockside.
