Fiction Adaptation: Shoot Days
For my entire shoot we worked out of two locations. The two are briefly summed up as a Therapy Room and a Stage. These two indoor locations where the only locations throughout the film and I couldn't have been more happy with them.
Issues
Once I begun editing I realized that the audio is rather quiet. It is something that can be boosted but I could have gotten away with using a clip mic on my actor, especially with the scenes on stage which could have worked quiet nicely and even if seen, wouldn't damage the integrity of the film.
Ideally, if more actors were available I could have used another actor for the role of the Therapist. However, shooting it as a POV helped to eliminate that need for another actor in a way that still pulls off a good look.
I wish I went with this idea originally which could have allowed me to try things what were even more risky. During the edit, there is a shot where the lighting is set up so there are two very visible shadows behind the lead actor and I would have loved to make the shadows do different things than the actor, however sadly with the limited time due to changes this was not possible given the time frame. I feel it is a trick that was missed.
Things that went well
I am very pleased with Plamen being my lead actor. I had virtually no doubts that he would bring an interesting take on the role and is someone that can play this character almost exactly how I imagined.
The shots came out brilliantly thanks to my director of photography, Alex. Very nicely framed and focused as we worked closely during the shooting.
I was very happy with my choice of crew, we worked well as a team and were all able to understand the look we were going for, offering suggestions and ideas as we went.
The locations were perfect, I couldn't have found something better to how I imagined. The locations translate brilliantly on screen and provide the perfect setting for the lead character, dependent on his mood swings.
Overall
Overall I'm very happy to even have something to show for out of this project as I did feel that I would reach the deadline day with nothing at the rate things were going. I am pleased to say the shoot went very well and the shots came out brilliantly. With a few minor issues, the whole thing could have gone a lot worse. I believe now, with what I have I can create a solid piece of work that I can be proud of.
