Fiction Adaptation: The Editing Phase
When editing I had two main focuses besides simply putting the clips together so they work. The first of which was to boost the audio, especially the dialogue.
During the early edits it was very quiet, due to some technical issues during filming which caused the spoken words to be quite hard to hear. I was able to fix it so that it was audible. However it is still rather quiet and I struggled to get it any more boosted. This is something that can go in my critical reflections, but is rather frustrating.
The second main focal point was colorization. I wanted to create two different worlds within this film. The Real and The Imaginary.
I wanted the real to appeal dull, drained of colour, by which all scenes are set up by different shades of grey but without going black and white. A complex yet dull world. By doing this I wanted to connote the idea that the main character finds the world boring. I wanted to represent his imagination as the fruit of the earth and what the world was, to him was dull.
I wanted the imaginary to appear more colourful, with more exposure to light and where characters skin tones are much more noticeable linked with the facade of being on stage with a 'presented' style. His imagination is the place where I wanted his emotions to lye. I wanted the imagination scene on stage to represent his conscious. A place where he can perform his emotions in a way that is beneficial to him. Seeing the therapist to this character is the opportunity to feel. He performs for himself and does not seek an audience.
