Fiction Adaptation: Critical Analysis

Critical Reflections:

Pre-Production:
I ran into a huge amount of problems in pre-production. The main of which was casting. Every time i got hold of an actor they would drop out with little notice. This caused delays which incidentally meant i couldn't buy costumes intended or plan locations as the dates would change constantly. This was the main reason the idea changed to something that was easier access wise. In the future casting needs to be done very early on, to ensure a lot of time for replies and possibilities. However this also means a back-up idea is also key.

Production:
Production was for the most part positive, with more pre-production planning i do believe the film could have been better. However, I am delighted to have something to show for, from this unit. The shoot days went very well however issues with audio arose during the edit meaning that for the future it may be a good idea to have practice runs, if possible, to test equipment. Unfortunately, for this unit it was not the case.

Post-Production:
The editing stage highlighted some areas where tricks were missed. The big regret is that with more time i would have loved to have done something interesting with the shadows on stage. I think that it would have looked brilliant and fit in very well within my narrative to have the shadows doing different things to one another and the lead character. This could have looked very sharp however, given the difficulties it is easy to understand that with the limited time, it probably would not have come out very well. However, it is something to try for the future.

Positives:
The positives are that I have a film at the end of this unit. A solid piece of work that i enjoyed making and ended up coming together nicely. The shots looked great and i am very pleased with the final edit, especially the colorization. Plamen as lead actor was the perfect choice and i couldn't be happier with his performance.

Conclusion:
In conclusion there is plenty to take away from this project but for what it could have been, I am very pleased with the final result. I feel i have shown improvement throughout my time at University as I feel this is my strongest work thus far and hope to continue to improve as the units come.

Here is the Finished Film...
