Fiction Adaptation: Costume/Fashion

Setting my film within 80s England requires certain areas of attention. In order to realistically interpret the 80s I have to look at areas such as settings, fashion/costume, appearances, technology, vehicles and communication. In order for my film to look like it is set within 80s England these criteria need to be well thought out and researched.

Fashion/Costume

The 'Gang'

- My film features a gang which racially abuses the protagonist's parent due to their interracial relationship and mixed race child.
- Their costumes are heavily influenced by 80s groups such as 'skinheads' and punk groups.
- This style is exactly what I'm looking for, as it will be almost alien/foreign to the modern viewer and to the multicultural family as the audience sees through their eyes at these 'foreign'/never before seen groups.
- Characters within the gang will have very short hair if not shaved heads.

The Main Character

- Mixed race male born from a Jamaican Father and English Mother.

- Costumes are influenced by teenage 80s style.

- This fashion has seen a comeback recently such as the Adidas originals and stone-wash skinny jeans.

- This style is what is exactly what i am looking for as it is not too outlandish but still sticks with the 80s theme.

- The hairstyle I am considering is short but styled, cut sharply to give the teenage vibe of style.

Mother and Father

- The married couple are young and stylish, however hard working and strong together. Something i wish to convey.

- For the Father, I wanted him to be dressed fairly formal, to show his commitment to work and that he provides for his family.

- Smart apparel such as suits, chinos shirts and smart jumpers.

- Hair kept short and sensible and trimmed facial hair.

- For the Mother, I want her to be stylish and youthful.

- Fun apparel such as rara skirts, leg warmers and over-sized jumpers.

- Hair backcombed with hairspray to create 'big' hairstyles.
