Digital News Production: Studio Shoot

In order to get a good looking Studio we opted to move into one of the large lecture rooms. This way we had enough space to set up the camera, lights and green-screen and still not be limited with movement.

We ran into problems early on...

- Our green-screen arrived later than originally planned which set us back half an hour which unfortunately caused everything else to be delayed as our green-screen was if not the, one of the most important things for our shoot.
- Lighting the green-screen also proved challenging, we had practiced once before with a lot more time to prepare, however the result was the most important thing so we avoided rushing as much as possible however time was against us.

Once we began filming there were a few more issues...

- Due to the lecture room not being sound proof, and our equipment being able to pick up the faintest of sounds we ran into problems when people opened doors nearby. To combat this we managed to possess some luck and to go for it at intervals between noises. There was nothing much we could do but keep retrying but we eventually got the shots.
- Due to being pressed for with time we didn't want to waste any more. We decided to use one of our mac laptops and have our presenter's lines on show to reduce any mistakes caused by forgetting lines.

Once we finished there were positives...

- We got all the shots we wanted
- Our presenter was great
- Green screen was evenly lit so it would be easier to edit
- Filming went smoothly
- We had everything planned and ready so we knew exactly what we had to do
- Got a lot of footage as back up
- Audio and visuals were constantly monitored so we knew they would be good enough for the edit.

There were some areas that could have been better on reflection...

- If we had the green-screen earlier we could have had more time to sort the lighting issues out a little earlier
- Lighting on our presenter is a little over exposed, something that we missed on the day and the camera's screen didn't really pick up
- If we had access to a sound proof room then we would have definitely used it as it would have been perfect for us

In conclusion our shoot was a success despite a few hiccups. The shots looked professional and the audio was clear which is all we could ask for. Now for the edit.
