Digital News Production: Our Brand, Website and Channel

With regards to our brand we wanted something that would catch a gamers attention. Something that almost everyone knows and can appreciate and that will catch the attention of a wide range of audiences.

We researched existing channels such as Funhaus, Acheievement Hunter, The Know, PewdiePie and many more. We found that one of the most important things is the brand. We found that especially because YouTube is free and so large and that anyone can put next to anything on there, you have to be out there and catch peoples eye to get a devoted audience that recognizes that your channel is different from the rest. We found that there are colour schemes, logos, t-shirts, advertisement and many other means of getting noticed in the black hole that is YouTube.

Example of Funhaus

Funhaus has a fanbase just shy of 800,000 subscribers and around 130,000,000 views on their videos! That is considered impressive yet PewDiePie, the most subscribed YouTuber has over 40 million subscribers and over 10 billion views on his videos! From playing and commentating on video games!

Our Brand

We decided that our brand needed to be all of the above, eye catching, memorable and interesting. We decided...

- Our name would be 'Game-Over'
- We would be a gaming news channel
- Our colour would be red black and white, resembling of classic games such as pac-man
- Encumber the retro gaming style throughout our channel
- Introduce a website to go with the channel
- Tagline of 'Now it Begins' to signify putting the controller down and reviewing

What we came up with was this...

- We have stuck to our retro style
- Colour scheme works well
- For our YouTube channel I created a banner which is meant to look like fan art, something alot of channels do is use their fans' work as their banners to almost reward their fans.
- Wez created a great looking active website and harry and I created articles on the channel to make it appear more professional and appear active. The text and layout resembles space invaders which is something that fits in perfect with our 'retro theme'.
- We have also managed to match the fill of our title text to the studio background within our film, so look out for that. A clever but effective way channels help you to subtly recognize their content.

In conclusion I am very happy with our brand. It is very strong and looks very professional. The thought gone into designing the logo and the way the website is laid out the detail gone into deciding a colour scheme.
