Digital News Production: Live Shoot

After our initial idea sadly did not come into fruition, we were forced to change our plans with regards to our live. Our plan was to now...

- Film in Fremlin Walk, Maidstone

- Interview members of the public who had just bought the game

- Have our presenter introduce by explaining the situation with the retailing company

- Then interview two members of the public

- Come to a conclusion and give tagline

Due to our situation with the retailing company we could not be near the said store which kind of left us in a predicament with getting people to interview. However, luckily we found two people who had bought the game.

We ran into a few problems on the shoot...

-Due to the hour at which we were filming the cleaners where doing their rounds and the noise generated by some of their machines proved to be quite distracting and overpowering over our mics. Luckily the cleaners where kind enough to stop and move further up the walkway so they were not picked up by our mics.

-We used a DSLR for good picture but it seemed when reviewing the footage, it was shaky on some shots due to the weight of the camera.

-Trying to stick our presenter to the time allocated was difficult and hard to manage. Eventually we had Wez to stand by with a stopwatch and would make the appropriate hand gestures to speed up or slow down.

However, the shoot was a success and we got the footage we needed. Our interviewees where great and our presenter was brilliant and injected a lot of life into the story which made for viewing a lot more interesting than it could have been.

Things I would have changed

- Chosen the Sony EX camera, heavier means it is more stable on screen which means it would have been less shaky.

- Maybe tired to have more of an interesting location, if it wasn't for our presenter it could have been incredibly dull.

In conclusion I think that, although its not as exciting and out there as our original plan was, we still got something good. The shots look great and audio looks good and technically we are sound. It just would have been a lot better if we have the location and the occasion. It's a great thing we had our great presenter Candice.
