Digital News Production: Expert Opinion
Idea behind having an Expert
After a lot of research into BBC and ITV news, we found that on most big issues, the presenter/reporter would interview an expert in a particular field that was relevant to the story. So if the story was on health they would interview a scientist. This acts as a for of backing to the story. To the everyday Joe on the street, the public has very little knowledge and is why they are watching the news for the information. By having an expert in the show essentially has someone who knows what they are talking about to explain to everyone so they can understand.
On these news channels it's either an expert they interview or someone representing a targeted party to explain a situation or being hot seated. Unable to get a representative of Ubisoft for our news piece, we opted for an expert on gaming.
Our Expert
For our Gaming Expert we are using University Lecturer Mat Phillips. He has a very keen interest into gaming and has been a huge gaming enthusiast for many years, including theories from video games and around this genre within his lectures.
Mat is exactly what we are looking for with regards to our expert, a young clearly spoken and educated gamer that knows to a high level the development process and gaming audiences' expectations in the modern day. Also he is not too formal for the show and sticks with our relaxed style of reporting the news which works perfectly.
