Directions Unit: Script for Part 3
Our upcoming films are split into three parts, the first of which has no dialogue and the second has a voice over narration. The final part has a set script which we were given by our course leader Simon and instructed that we must use within our story.
I read through the script and found that the dialogue really didn't sit well with me. I felt that the my characters wouldn't speak like that and was in now way representative to Scorsese film. I chose to speak with Simon and discussed that my characters would not speak in this way and for that long, I explained that in order to fit in with the rest of my film and not create a void between the first two parts and the third that I should cut down the amount of speech, and introduce faster, more quick fire responses. I felt that this way film's parts will flow a lot better and also adequately recreate Scorsese's style.
I wanted to change the location of a scene so that I could have an effective match on action shot transitioning between parts and introduced a short segment where my main character breaks the fourth wall. I have tried to make this third part as awkward as possible as it will become apparent within the film. I have included lengthy pauses and tried to replicate the use of effective silence within Scorsese's films.
I also couldn't resist a cameo appearance as a Barman, to completely replicate Scorsese and for no other reason.
